Medieval Bagpipes

I make medieval bagpipes. The external shape is based on engravings and woodcuts from the 13th–15th centuries, and I also incorporate my own ideas.
The drones are made with a cylindrical bore with single reeds; the chanter has a conical bore and a double reed. I also make instruments with a cylindrical bore and single reeds.
The bag can be leather or synthetic. I make chanter reeds from plastic, and drone reeds from wood with a synthetic tongue.
The sound of this instrument is loud and strident.

1 drone: G major / A minor or C major / D minor — chanter G/a or C/d

2 drones: bass G/a, tenor D/e — or bass C/d, tenor G/a

On request I can also make other keys and drone combinations.

Swedish Bagpipes

Dudy te mają przyjemny, słodki ton i nie są zbyt wymagające.
Stroiki wykonuję z włókna węglowego

standardowo wykonuję je w tonacji E lud D.
Mogę wykonać inną tonację na życzenie.

Swedish bagpipes, known as the Säckpipa, are single-reed bagpipes, most commonly with one drone.
These bagpipes have a pleasant, sweet tone and are not particularly demanding.
I make the reeds from carbon fibre and the bag from natural leather.

I make them as standard in the key of E or D.
Other keys available on request.

Forest bagpipes

Forest bagpipes are bagpipes made entirely by hand from natural elderberry branches, giving each one a unique, rustic and primitive appearance.
The chanter stock features a carved goat’s head. Single reeds made from wood with carbon fibre tongues. Natural skin in animal form.

The keys I most commonly make are: A, B, C, D, D#, F.
I can makes these withvarious fingering styles, both open and closed.

Goat Bagpipes (Kozioł also known in German as ‘bock’)

The kozioł and its variants are a Central European traditional instrument, found in different forms in countries such as Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Germany.
They are most commonly fitted with a goat’s head and a bag in the animal’s natural form.
Kozioł is characterised by cylindrical bores in both the chanter and the drones, and single reeds.
Fingering is most commonly closed.
They have a pleasant, warm tone.

I most commonly make kozioł in the keys of D, E♭, and F.
On request I can make them in any other key with any fingering. Mouth-blown or bellows-blown.

Hungarian Bagpipes

Hungarian bagpipes are characterised by one drone with a single reed, and a chanter with two bores and two single reeds.
One bore is melodic with seven finger holes in the key of A major. The second has only one hole, A/E.
Natural cow horn is used on both the chanter and the drone.
Traditionally Hungarian bagpipes use closed fingering.
All of the reeds are made from carbon fibre.
On request I can also make Hungarian bagpipes in other keys.

Szutki Bagpipes

These bagpipes are my own original design.
They have a strong, warm tone.
They are fitted with single reeds in both the drone and the chanter. The drone can play up to five notes: C, D, E, F, G, whilst the chanter is fully chromatic with open fingering in the key of C/d.
The bag can be either in natural leather or synthetic.

Shawms/Rauschpfeife

The shawm is a historic wooden wind instrument belonging to the family of double-reed instruments. It is the precursor of the modern oboe and bassoon. This instrument was probably brought to Europe by the Crusaders and quickly became popular, especially in dance music, due to the fact they are much louder than the flutes and fifes that were already in use.

Shawms can be made from different types of wood; I usually use maple, cherry, pear, walnut, and hard exotic woods such as wenge, rosewood, amazaque, and padauk.

I most commonly make them in the keys of G/a and C/d. On request I can also make them in other keys.

Clarinets

The clarinet has a pleasant, warm tone and is very simple to play. I make clarinets without keys but with full chromaticism. Fingering is similar to that of the recorder. Standard reeds as used for the B♭ clarinet. I most commonly make them in the key of G/a. On request I can also make them in other keys.

Kaval

This takes a bit of effort to learn as the beginnings can be frustrating. The sound can be compared to the transverse flute or the Japanese Shakuhachi.
Depending on the country of origin, the construction of the instruments differs.

The Bulgarian kaval is usually made from fruit wood or maple and can be divided into three parts. It is typically decorated with cast rings of tin, ebony, or bone, which are sometimes substituted with synthetic materials.

In comparison, the Macedonian kaval is handmade from a single piece of ash; the outer shape is carved with a knife, and decoration is created almost exclusively by burning.

The number of holes and the playing technique are the same for both types.

The most popular tuning is D, but it is also made in the keys of B, C, and E.

Miscellaneous

By request, I also make additional components for bagpipes such as:
reeds, bellows, decorative heads, and bags from natural leather.
